Minimum Wage Set to Increase April 2017

In 2016 a National Living Wage was implemented by the previous Chancellor, George Osborne. It was set at £7.20 per hour, if you are over the age of 25 and not in the first year of an apprenticeship.

However, from April 2017 this is set to increase to £7.50. This means, if they work a standard working week, workers could be almost £600 a year better off.

The rise is applied across the board, see the table below for a full breakdown of the price increases.

However, while this is fantastic news for anyone currently living on minimum wage, this increase is not enough according to some. The current living wage is set at £7.20, however it has been calculated that the actual living wage is £8.45 per hour in most of the UK, and £9.75 in London.

So while this is a step in the right direction, some experts believe it is still not enough. Katherine Chapman, director of the Living Wage Foundation, said:

"We welcome any pay rise for low-paid workers, especially now in these uncertain times with speculations about food and other prices set to rise.

"The reality, however, is that a fifth of UK workers aren't paid enough to live on. There's still a gap between the Government minimum and our real Living Wage of £8.45 in the UK and £9.75 in London, which is based on what families need to earn to meet everyday costs.”

It is a point of pride that, for a long time, Juice have paid our temps more than the National Living Wage. We do this for several reasons, but the main one is that they simply deserve it. Whether we are fortunate, or whether we have crafted it, all the temporary workers on our books are fantastic at whatever they turn their hands to.

However, it is their attitude to work that really makes them stand out. As a testament to that, it is not uncommon for them to be offered full time positions at the end of their temporary contracts.

"Wow, what can I say about Juice Personnel. Just that you are the ONLY agency that has ben honest and fair to me when I have been in need. I have always had swift responses, been offered fantastic opportunities and been provided with a friendly voice at the end of the phone too. When I lost my job you provided me with a temporary income that meant that I could worry a little less about accepting a job that I didn't want just to pay the bills, this was something I was passionate about. I cant really some up how I feel in to words, but a local, honest, friendly, but a professional company and without a doubt the best that I have ever come across and believe me, I have come across several in my career search. Your team are the only members of recruitment that I will allow on my linked in, think that's testimony to your company. Hope you can take something from the above."

They provide drivers that understand the importance of the level of fluency that is required for the role they take on while driving for us here at Malcolm’s. I may also add that the staff at Juice are very friendly and always willing to help at any time."

Tim Cullen - Transport Team, W H Malcolm

""I approached Juice Personnel after having my maternity leave in 2015 to look for a more suitable role which would fit around my new circumstances. It was a pleasure to visit their office & meet with Claire, she made the whole process extremely easy which was such a relief after being away from the working environment for a few months. Within a week she had found me a great position & I continue to work for the same company. She was a great point of contact and offered fantastic advice and support every step of the way. Thank you Claire & Juice Personnel!""

Charlie O'Neil - Placed in a permanent position

"I would just like to say how helpful and professional these girls are, they have never let me down and are always true to their word, always available with lots of support and advice, fantastic company to work with and for - thank you"

Ruth Amis - Long term temporary worker

"I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Juice Personnel for their assistance in helping me gain my recent employment, in particular Resourcing Consultant Viki Freeman who was very professional, extremely helpful and did an excellent job in representing me to a prospective employer which led me to successfully gain an interview, which ultimately resulted in a job offer. Viki always kept me up to date with how things were progressing, unlike previous recruitment agencies I have used where I was the one doing all the chasing for progress. I would also like to mention Kelly Smith who again with great professionalism was very helpful to me. Once again thank you, I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for future employment to try Juice Personnel."
