Minimum Wage Set to Increase April 2017

In 2016 a National Living Wage was implemented by the previous Chancellor, George Osborne. It was set at £7.20 per hour, if you are over the age of 25 and not in the first year of an apprenticeship.

However, from April 2017 this is set to increase to £7.50. This means, if they work a standard working week, workers could be almost £600 a year better off.

The rise is applied across the board, see the table below for a full breakdown of the price increases.

However, while this is fantastic news for anyone currently living on minimum wage, this increase is not enough according to some. The current living wage is set at £7.20, however it has been calculated that the actual living wage is £8.45 per hour in most of the UK, and £9.75 in London.

So while this is a step in the right direction, some experts believe it is still not enough. Katherine Chapman, director of the Living Wage Foundation, said:

"We welcome any pay rise for low-paid workers, especially now in these uncertain times with speculations about food and other prices set to rise.

"The reality, however, is that a fifth of UK workers aren't paid enough to live on. There's still a gap between the Government minimum and our real Living Wage of £8.45 in the UK and £9.75 in London, which is based on what families need to earn to meet everyday costs.”

It is a point of pride that, for a long time, Juice have paid our temps more than the National Living Wage. We do this for several reasons, but the main one is that they simply deserve it. Whether we are fortunate, or whether we have crafted it, all the temporary workers on our books are fantastic at whatever they turn their hands to.

However, it is their attitude to work that really makes them stand out. As a testament to that, it is not uncommon for them to be offered full time positions at the end of their temporary contracts.

Carole Shaw - Temporary worker

"From my initial contact through to the registration process I found the staff at Juice Personnel to be very polite and professional. You are treated respectfully and not just another CV on a database. "

Dawn Davis - Registered Candidate

"After finishing university I was looking for paid legal work which is very hard to come by on a temporary basis. Juice were fully professional yet had a friendly approach to finding me a job and succeeded. I am now working in a field that I love and couldn't thank them more!"

Rebecca Beech - Summer Temporary Worker

"Juice were brilliant at understanding exactly what I was looking for in terms of a career. After just one meeting with them, they had put me forward to the company that I have now been working at for 1 year, and already I have been given the chance to develop and progress. I have never been happier and I think the fact that Juice listened to all the little things I wanted from my next role is exactly the reason that I was placed so perfectly!"

Amy Cooper - Placed in a permanent position

"From day one Juice Personnel have been very professional, informative and truly outstanding when searching and placing me in employment. From the moment I first walked through the office doors to meet with one of their representatives I have been nothing but pleased and extremely satisfied with Juice. They have managed to source a position close to home with outstanding credentials which I am extremely grateful for. I have found that Juice are by far the best agency I have dealt with in West Yorkshire and I would highly recommend them to friends, family or any business associates that may need form of employment. Although I have not been with Juice long, I know that the relationship can only blossom and go from strength to strength."

Richard Allen- Long term temporary

"I have known and used Agency drivers through Lynn for about 10 years. I have found Lynn to be honest and trust worthy, if Lynn could not cover a slot that we needed she would say from the off and not keep us hanging around. We have all drivers assessed before they can drive one of our vehicles and this is an area where Lynn has always been good for us. She has always kept new drivers coming for assessment so we did not run short of drivers. We used to have up to 20 drivers a day, over 24 hours, seven days a week. I have used several agencies over the past few years and Lynn (Juice) has been one of the best and still is. Lynn has always given us a reliable service. So, if it's a reliable service that you are looking for, ring Lynn Mortimer and the team at Juice. "
