Minimum Wage Set to Increase April 2017

In 2016 a National Living Wage was implemented by the previous Chancellor, George Osborne. It was set at £7.20 per hour, if you are over the age of 25 and not in the first year of an apprenticeship.

However, from April 2017 this is set to increase to £7.50. This means, if they work a standard working week, workers could be almost £600 a year better off.

The rise is applied across the board, see the table below for a full breakdown of the price increases.

However, while this is fantastic news for anyone currently living on minimum wage, this increase is not enough according to some. The current living wage is set at £7.20, however it has been calculated that the actual living wage is £8.45 per hour in most of the UK, and £9.75 in London.

So while this is a step in the right direction, some experts believe it is still not enough. Katherine Chapman, director of the Living Wage Foundation, said:

"We welcome any pay rise for low-paid workers, especially now in these uncertain times with speculations about food and other prices set to rise.

"The reality, however, is that a fifth of UK workers aren't paid enough to live on. There's still a gap between the Government minimum and our real Living Wage of £8.45 in the UK and £9.75 in London, which is based on what families need to earn to meet everyday costs.”

It is a point of pride that, for a long time, Juice have paid our temps more than the National Living Wage. We do this for several reasons, but the main one is that they simply deserve it. Whether we are fortunate, or whether we have crafted it, all the temporary workers on our books are fantastic at whatever they turn their hands to.

However, it is their attitude to work that really makes them stand out. As a testament to that, it is not uncommon for them to be offered full time positions at the end of their temporary contracts.

"I found juice personnel extremely friendly and professional and made my job search a much more relaxed experience. Regular feedback and contact made me feel that I was really been looked after, and would definitely recommend them to friends and would use them again for a new job search and for recruiting in my role. Plus the girls were lovely!!!! Emma "

Emma Antsey - Placed in a permanent position

"Juice Personnel, is an extremely friendly, down to earth recruitment agency, whom I have used twice in my young professional career. The first being back in 2010, when I had first graduated and a little lost in the world of employment. They secured me a great temporary job, in which I had requested and in turn, developed in to a full time position. Since then, after moving on, traveling the world, I again found myself in the position of looking for a career change. I instantly remembered the amazing service and supportive nature of Juice and called them to help me find my current position. I cannot thank them enough for their helpful, friendly and supportive role, which they took in finding my new career and could not recommend them enough to others! Thank you Bex and the rest of Juice for all your efforts!"

Hannah Raison - Permanent Candidate

"I approached Juice personnel in October 2014 looking for some temporary work. They were great to work with and found me a placement right away. This initially started as a temporary contract. After a few weeks the company offered me a permanent position working on reception on a part time basis. Since then, my personal circumstances have changed slightly and I applied recently for another position within the company on full time basis as a HR administrator. I was offered the position on a 3 month trail, which looks like it is now going to go permanent quite soon. I will probably be working with Juice again now as I will now be responsible for helping with the recruitment for the company. I am looking forward to working with Juice again. I am really enjoying my new role and I would like to thank all at Juice for all their help in finding me a great job and career. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to friends and family."

Tracy Johnson - Long Term Temporary worker

"Juice were brilliant at understanding exactly what I was looking for in terms of a career. After just one meeting with them, they had put me forward to the company that I have now been working at for 1 year, and already I have been given the chance to develop and progress. I have never been happier and I think the fact that Juice listened to all the little things I wanted from my next role is exactly the reason that I was placed so perfectly!"

Amy Cooper - Placed in a permanent position

" My experience of using Juice Personnel, during my job search was brilliant from start to end. They were polite, friendly and approachable. Nothing was ever too much trouble and if they couldn’t answer my queries immediately, they returned my call within the day. I felt as though they really cared about finding me the right position, to suit my circumstances. I would definitely use them again and would recommend their services. "

Fiona Shakesby - Placed in a permanent position

"I have only been registered with Juice Personnel for around six months and in that time they have managed to find me an amazing job opportunity suited well to my needs. Rebecca was dealing with all my interview arrangements and was so helpful and professional with every one, she has supported me when I was ridiculously nervous and helped me to land the job I have been waiting for. I could not have done it without her and would highly recommended anyone looking for something new, to register with this amazing recruitment agency!"

Laura Adams - Placed in a permanent role

"If it hadn’t been for you guys and your powers of persuasion I’m quite aware that I wouldn’t even have got an interview, never mind an offer. I had been for interview with a number of agencies, both in Wakefield and Leeds, but have to say Juice was the only one which I felt understood exactly what I was looking for, despite my qualifications. It was also the friendliness which I loved – you almost make candidates feel they are part of your team. Viki has been great – keeping my morale going at the beginning when I was waiting for decisions!! "
