First Impressions - Clients and Candidates

I read a really interesting article on LinkedIn the other day and thought I’d share the info with you as it’s something which is really applicable to all our Clients and all the Candidates who we work with as well.

It’s about making the best First Impressions albeit the Employer or the Employee.  Both parties need to maximize their impact during the first week as this can set the tone for the rest of the working relationship.

Employers:

  • Why not invite any future starters to any social events you have scheduled. This is a great and really informal way of them getting to know their colleagues and instantly gives them the sense of being in a team. It can also help settle any ‘new starter’ nerves on their first day.
  • Try to make the induction as useful as and informative as possible. The more the new employee knows about you, the more they will feel part of the team.
  • Again the induction process needs to be seamless. Be confident in presenting your business and really know the information you’re delivering.
  • Be interested in your new starter. Getting to know them on more of a personal level will make them feel more comfortable and hopefully increase productivity – they’ll feel more at ease with the responsibilities of their role.
  • Make them feel welcome from the off-set. In the long run, this will improve your business brand and encourage people to want to work for you!

Employees:

  • Getting to know your colleagues before you start is a great way to settle any nerves you may have prior to starting so if your Employer doesn’t suggest a social meet, why don’t you? This not only shows that you’re eager to start but also suggest that you’re a great team associate.
  • Knowledge is a great thing! Keep in regular contact with your new employer before you start. Ask for company information, any targets / objectives or future goals of the business. Start your first day with as much information as you possibly can.
  • Be receptive to new ideas and ways of thinking. Experience is wonderful, and you’ve been offered the new job based on this, but refrain from saying things like ‘in my last job’, ‘where I worked before’. It’s great to draw on experience, but it’s even better to learn new skills!
  • Stay away from the office gossip! Engage in small conversations with everyone and really get to know your colleagues for yourself, not from others.
  • Finally and probably the most obvious – be punctual, be smart and just do your best! You’ve already done the hard part and got the job offer. These tips will help you pass your probation period and hopefully build a long standing career with your new employer.

I hope you've found the above useful. At Juice Personnel we endeavour to find the right people for local businesses; as well as securing the right jobs to match to our Candidate skills and needs. Testimonials

"Following an initial misunderstanding regarding role profile, the Juice team reacted swiftly to supply strong candidates for interview from whom we were able to select the right person for the job. They have also followed up the initial recruitment and demonstrated good commitment to delivering the right service for our business. I can recommend Juice Personnel."

Jenna Hudson - Placed in a permanent position

"I have known and used Agency drivers through Lynn for about 10 years. I have found Lynn to be honest and trust worthy, if Lynn could not cover a slot that we needed she would say from the off and not keep us hanging around. We have all drivers assessed before they can drive one of our vehicles and this is an area where Lynn has always been good for us. She has always kept new drivers coming for assessment so we did not run short of drivers. We used to have up to 20 drivers a day, over 24 hours, seven days a week. I have used several agencies over the past few years and Lynn (Juice) has been one of the best and still is. Lynn has always given us a reliable service. So, if it's a reliable service that you are looking for, ring Lynn Mortimer and the team at Juice. "

Large Northern Supermarket Chain

"I approached Juice personnel in October 2014 looking for some temporary work. They were great to work with and found me a placement right away. This initially started as a temporary contract. After a few weeks the company offered me a permanent position working on reception on a part time basis. Since then, my personal circumstances have changed slightly and I applied recently for another position within the company on full time basis as a HR administrator. I was offered the position on a 3 month trail, which looks like it is now going to go permanent quite soon. I will probably be working with Juice again now as I will now be responsible for helping with the recruitment for the company. I am looking forward to working with Juice again. I am really enjoying my new role and I would like to thank all at Juice for all their help in finding me a great job and career. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to friends and family."

Tracy Johnson - Long Term Temporary worker

"Juice Personnel found me a great job that suited me and what I was looking for. The staff are all very efficient & have great communication with their clients. I started temping with them within a couple of weeks of enquiry about a job. I was temping for 3 months and now I am starting with the company permanent. I would highly recommend using Juice if you are out of work or looking for a new job. "

Kirsty Walton - Temp to Perm placement

"Hi ladies Just to let you know that I have accepted an offer of permanent employment this afternoon so I will no longer require your services. Thank you for everything over the past couple of months, I am really grateful for the temp placements and interviews you have sourced for me. "

Fiona Baker - Registered Candidate

"I have found everyone in the team to be very helpful, friendly, efficient and encouraging during my job search. I felt they had a genuine interest in finding the right job for me and that they were as happy as I was when I was offered the position, thank you. Thank you again for all help Laura "
